REPORT ON THE FIRST ORDINARY GENERAL ASSEMBLY MEETING OF THE THIRD SESSION OF THE KADJEBI DISTRICT ASSEMBLY HELD ON THURSDAY, 14TH MAY, 2026 AT THE ASSEMBLY HALL

1.0 INTRODUCTION:
The Kadjebi District Assembly held its First Ordinary Meeting for the year on Thursday, 14th May, 2026 at the District Assembly Hall, Kadjebi, with Assembly Members, Heads of Departments, and other stakeholders in attendance.
2.0 ELECTION OF PRESIDING MEMBER:
A major agenda item during the meeting was the election of the Presiding Member for the Assembly. Out of the total number of (54) Assembly Members, (47) members were present and participated in the election process.
At the end of the voting exercise, (46) members voted in favour of retaining the incumbent Presiding Member, Hon. Anthony K. Ahiable, representing (85.2) percent of the total membership of the Assembly. This overwhelming endorsement was in recognition of his dedication and good work during his tenure in office.
The election process was supervised and presided over by Mr. Christian Bokode, the Kadjebi District Officer of the Electoral Commission.
3.0 SESSIONAL ADDRESS BY THE DISTRICT CHIEF EXECUTIVE:
The Kadjebi District Chief Executive, Hon. Dr. Issaka Sam Suraj, delivered his sessional address to the Assembly. In his presentation, he touched on several key issues affecting the district, including the security situation, ongoing developmental projects, and various socio-economic interventions.
On infrastructure and development, the DCE highlighted physical projects being undertaken across the district, particularly the drilling of mechanized boreholes in communities such as Kordibenum, Menudo, and Kadjebi to improve access to potable water.
Hon. Dr. Suraj also spoke on social welfare and community development interventions aimed at promoting social protection, child welfare, and community empowerment within the district.
On health, he outlined efforts being made to improve healthcare delivery services in the district. He further mentioned the launch of the Free Primary Health Care Programme in the Oti Region at Dambai on 9th May 2026, describing it as a significant step towards improving healthcare accessibility for residents.
The DCE additionally highlighted activities in the agricultural sector, including farmer outreach programmes and agricultural technology demonstrations designed to improve productivity and modern farming practices among farmers in the district.
In the area of education, he reiterated the Assembly’s commitment to supporting educational development and improving learning outcomes within the district.
4.0 CONCLUSION:
The meeting ended successfully with members reaffirming their commitment to work together to promote peace, development, and improved living conditions for the people of the Kadjebi District. The Assembly expressed optimism that the various interventions and development projects outlined would contribute significantly to the socio-economic growth of the district in 2026.
