OTI REGION HOLDS ITS 2022 READING FESTIVAL IN KADJEBI

OTI REGIONAL EDUCATION DIRECTORATE IN COLLABORATION WITH USAID-LEARNING HELD ITS REGIONAL READING FESTIVAL DUBBED “LEARN TO READ, READ TO LEARN IN KADJEBI-ASATO SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL (KASEC)- KADJEBI

The “Reading Festival“; an annual festival which is organised in all regions across the Country is aimed at encouraging and stimulating learners’ interest in reading by demonstrating that reading is fun. it is also an initiative geared towards stimulating the interest of parents, guardians and community interest in reading. After going through series of Circuit and District Competitions, a total of 201 pupils; basic 1-3 were selected to partake in the Regional Competition.

For Oti Region, this year’s Reading Festival took place on Wednesday, 10th August, 2022 at Kadjebi. the Occasion was graced by very important personalities from the length and breath of the Region. Notable among them includes: the Acting Regional Director of Education who doubles as the Queen Mother for the Akpafu Traditional Area, A rep of the Regional Minister and Chief Director of Education who also doubled as the chairperson for the Occasion, MP for Kadjebi-Akan Constituency, DCE for Kadjebi District, Reps of the DCE for Guan District, a Rep from USAID-Ghana, District Police Commander-Kadjebi District, Traditional Rulers from Kadjebi, Asato and Ahamansu Traditional Councils/Authorities, Religious Leaders, Municipal and District Education Directors, Teachers and students across the Region.

The Chairpman in his welcome address stressed on the fact; the role of education in our society in no doubt cannot be overemphasized. He mentions that reading is very important to the foundation of every child hence it is very important to encourage and stimulate their interest in reading. He therefore encouraged the learners to put in their best in the competition and the winners will go home with very deserving rewards.

The dignitaries present were also given the opportunity to briefly interact with all present by delivering brief speeches on the event and on education in the Oti Region.

ACTING REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

The Acting Regional Director for Education in her delivery expressed her joy for haven gotten the opportunity to interact with various personalities, professionals, pupils, stakeholders and very key personalities who are pioneering the affairs of the Newly Created Oti Region and this very important event. She went ahead to give a brief overview of the Event and the critical role played by USAID in supporting this very important event and Ghana’s education at large.

She went ahead to state that, this event will go a long way to build a strong point for the need to read and get others to support the idea of “Learn to Read, Read to Learn” agenda. She went further to give outlines about the significance of Reading and how events as this will help schools and learners achieve learning outcomes that will go a long way to help in the development of the Region; especially education. She added that, the only way to curb the challenge of language proficiency in our schools is through reading.

Drawing her speech to a close, she thanked USAID-Learning, Directors of Education, the Planning Team, teachers and all who contributed in various ways to ensure that this academic event see the light of the day. She concluded the speech by quoting the words of and American Educationist; Dr. Theodor Sales Cassio who stated that; “the more things you learn, the more places you will go and the more that you read, the more that you will know”.

DCE-KADJEBI DISTRICT

The DCE for Kadjebi in his delivery expressed his joy for registration in the history books; the first District in the Oti Region to host this very important event. He outlined the efforts he has made and the continuous efforts he and his administration under the auspices of the Current NPP government are putting in place to support education in his District. He concluded his speech by announcing to the house that, he has been able to lobby for a sum of Ghana Cedis GHC. for the constriction of 750 dual desks for the 3 Senior High Schools in the Kadjebi District.

USAID REP

The USAID Rep in his speech acknowledged all dignitaries and personalities present. He went ahead to state that, ” there come a time where a people, a community or a nation look back to the development of an activity and therefore set aside a day to celebrate achievements through occasions as this. He assured all and sundry that USAID is ever ready to continuously support education in the Region and Country at large.

MP KADJEBI-AKAN

The MP for Kadjebi Akan in his speech stated emphatically the importance of reading. He went further to express his joy about the significant impact of this event to his constituents, the Kadjebi District and the Oti Region. Prior to concluding his speech, he outlined his contributions and achievments so far to education and other aspects of the Constituency and District at large. In the Hon. MP’s closing remarks, he assured the people that, he will contineou to put in his best towards supporting education and all areas that need attention within the Kadjebi District and if possible the Region at large. He at the end of his interaction presented a new Laptop Computer to the Acting Regional Director of Education to enable her work effectively towards the development of education in the Region.
