GREEN GHANA DAY IN KADJEBI DISTRICT

“Green Ghana Day”, an event which was carried out on the 10th of June, 2022 is a government initiative which seeks to create a collective action towards the restoration of degraded landscapes in the country, mitigate climate change and inculcate in the youth the values of planting and nurturing trees and their associate benefits. This event was held in various Regions and Districts across the country.

In the Kadjebi District, this event was held at the Agenda 111 hospital Site. The event which was divided into two phases begun quite late due to the early morning showers in and around Kadjebi District. The first part of the programme commenced at 11:30am with a short ceremony. This was graced by the DCE, DCD, Chiefs and Elders from the Kadjebi District’s Traditional Councils, Ghana Police Service, Ghana Forestry Commission, Staff of Kadjebi District Assembly, Students from KASEC among others.

The event begun with an opening prayer said by a student from the Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC), this was followed immediately with the pouring of libation by Chiefs of the Traditional Councils. Introduction of the Chairperson for the event followed the pouring of libation and this was done by the District Coordinating Director, Mr. Alhassan Sulemana. The Chairperson for the event was the Paramount Chief of Dodo Traditional Area, Dasebre Oduro-Guranim I. A commissioner from the Forestry Commission, Mr. Gustav Adu was given the mantle to brief all and sundry about Green Ghana 2022, its essence and why an exercise of this nature should be taken serious. He mentioned that, an exercise of this nature will go a long way to reduce the climate and energy crises faced by the country. He went further to brief the people about the economic benefit of tree planting. He concluded by encouraging the people of Kadjebi to take this planting exercise very serious.

The Hon. DCE for Kadjebi District; Hon. Wilson Agbanyo in his speech appealed to his people to embrace the planting exercise to help mitigate climate change. He added that it will also help in the restoration of the lost forest, landscape and vegetative cover in the Kadjebi District and Ghana at large.

Hon. Abgenyo also thanked the Jasikan District and the Forest Commission for making available to the Kadjebi District 250,000 seedlings of tick tree, Mahogany and Odum for planting. He encouraged individuals to put in their best to nature the seedlings after planting. Mr. Agbenyo emphasized that, tree planting, especially this initiative of Green Ghana will provide a balance to the cutting down of trees for various purposes occurring in the District and Country at large. Hon DCE concluded his speech by stating that “when the last tree dies, the last man dies” and so this should be the guiding principle for all and sundry.

The second phase of this important event was the phase for the Ceremonial Planting. The Citizens present all moved to the grounds prepared for the ceremonial planting. The first tree was planted by the DCE; Hon. Wilson Agbanyo, the second by the Paramont Chief of Dodo Traditional Area, the third by one of the elders from the Kadjebi-Asato Traditional Area whiles the forth by a female student from Kadjebi-Asato Senior High School (KASEC).
