The commencement of construction for the proposed Dzindziso Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) Compound marks a significant milestone as the site has been officially handed over to the contractor. Dr. Osei Kuffuor Afreh, acting on behalf of the Korean Foundation for International Healthcare (KOFIH), facilitated the handover to Mr. Alhassan Ibrahim Nguah, Managing Director of Nguah Enterprise Company Limited, a reputable construction firm based in Tamale.
The CHPS Compound, slated for construction in Dzindziso within the Kadjebi District of the Oti Region, will encompass vital facilities such as a two-bedroom apartment for midwives, a maternity block, recovery and consulting rooms, a dispensary, and a blood bank, among other essential amenities.
While the specific cost of the project remains undisclosed, it is anticipated to be completed within a four-month timeframe. Dr. Afreh shared insights into the project’s origins, revealing its inception from an abandoned CHPS Compound project initiated by former Member of Parliament for the Akan Constituency, Mr. Joseph Kwadwo Ofori. Through concerted efforts and lobbying, financial support was secured from the Korean Foundation.
Dr. Afreh urged community members to actively support the project by providing essential resources such as water to facilitate its timely completion. Mr. Eric Nana Takyi, the Kadjebi District Director of Health Services, highlighted the current challenges faced by the Dzindziso Health Staff in serving clients within inadequate facilities, emphasizing the need for improved infrastructure.
Mr. Wilson Kwami Agbanyo, the Kadjebi District Chief Executive, expressed gratitude to the donors and urged community members to contribute labor to expedite the project’s completion. Additionally, he encouraged the contractor to prioritize the employment of local artisans as part of the project’s local content initiative.
Mr. Abuayindo Waponde, the Basari Chief of Dzindziso, echoed sentiments of appreciation, highlighting the project’s previous stall and expressing optimism for its successful implementation.
